KIMONO COATS
(Yukata, Nemaki, Kimono)

The name yukata derives from the words YU (bath) and KATABIRA (undergarment). About 1000 years ago, the Japanese court nobility used yukatabira cloths made of linen. Later warriors started using them as towels after bath. Common people started using yukatabira cloths for about 300 years ago, when public baths became popular. At that time the yukata coats were made of cotton, and were used every day after bath.



 

Originally the yukata coats were coloured blue and white. Today they are used not only at festival occasions but also as simple pyjamas (nemaki). Here are our favourite yukata models, all made of 100% cotton:
